The Vice President, US General Manager (GM), will provide the vision and leadership necessary to develop and implement the commercial strategy, accelerating the growth of Kite’s business in the US.

The successful candidate will be charged with building and executing brand strategies, which are aligned with global strategies yet customized to the specific needs of the US market, to drive growth and maintain Kite’s leadership in cell therapy. This includes launch activities for pipeline assets as well as post-launch, growth phase and life cycle activities for in-line products. He/she will lead the long-range plan and annual financial planning process for the US business.

The US GM will also be responsible for the positioning of the brands, pricing and market access strategies, shaping of internal and external cell therapy policy in the US as well as ensuring excellence in execution of tactical plans. He/she will ensure timely guidance to senior management on key strategic initiatives and brand performance. The GM will also be responsible for maximizing commercial effectiveness, building an organization of top talent, and fostering a culture of innovation and teamwork.

This individual will need to understand the unique competitive landscape and commercial model for cell therapy and the distinctive needs of customers, both at a brand and cell therapy operations level, to ensure customer needs are being met. He/she will also play an important role in engaging key stakeholders in the US, including key opinion leaders, the medical community, payers, and policy makers.

The US GM will be responsible for maintaining an effective, collaborative relationship with all internal stakeholders, including Medical Affairs, Commercial Operations, and Global Marketing and Market Access to successfully drive business objectives and ensure patient access to Kite’s growing portfolio of cell therapies.

Experience and Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will be an experienced executive from the biotechnology or specialty-focused pharmaceutical industry with significant hematology/oncology experience and an outstanding record of accomplishment in leading high performing commercial teams. Prior experience in cell therapy is advantageous. This individual must possess proven P&L experience, including demonstrated success in managing and growing a US oncology business.

  • A solid understanding of the complex regulatory, market access and commercial requirements in oncology, as well as the emerging paradigm for cell therapy is critical. An openness to new ideas and approaches to adapt to the needs of the rapidly evolving cell therapy marketplace and a commitment to operating on the highest ethical level are essential.

  • More specifically, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong business acumen, with sophisticated and proven commercial experience in devising brand strategies, successfully launching oncology and/or cell therapies, partnering with manufacturing and supply chain to optimize the commercial distribution model and understanding key financial drivers for oncologists and treatment centers in the US.

  • Thorough knowledge and solid experience with oncology products, including in strategic marketing, reimbursement, life cycle management and market research and analytics. Awareness and appreciation of the added complexities of cell therapies required.

  • Solid understanding of the U.S. market access landscape, with the ability to support the development of and provide guidance into novel pricing and reimbursement approaches.

  • Excellent financial skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage a P&L at the local level.

  • Proven success in identifying strategic growth opportunities, including experience in business development and in working with strategic partners.

  • A data-driven approach to analysis and decision-making, with a strong scientific acumen and understanding of medical needs within a therapeutic area.

  • Creativity and resilience in problem solving and a relentless, hands-on drive to implement and accomplish US performance goals and objectives in a rapid-paced, changing business environment.

  • Comfort with uncertainty and the ability to exercise sound judgment and determine appropriate action where precedent may not exist. The candidate should have a mindset toward innovation and non-traditional commercial approaches when appropriate.

  • Ability to lead by example, attract and develop talent, build partnerships and create a culture of collaboration and high performing teams that fosters open communication, constructive feedback and organizational flexibility.

  • Strong executive presence and a motivational leadership style that inspires others, conveys confidence, and demonstrates passion for Kite’s mission.

  • Exceptional communication, both verbal and written, and influencing skills. A personal style that enables the candidate to work successfully with various internal and external stakeholders including current and potential industry partners and colleagues at all levels and functions within the organization.

Education

  • Candidates must have an undergraduate degree, with an MBA or other relevant post graduate degree preferred.
