Sr. Director, Market Access
Location: South Plainfield, NJ, US
The Sr. Director will have deep experience and success in hiring and operationalizing an external market access team for specialty biologics within the orphan market segment with a strong national payer background including commercial and government providers. Position requires direct interaction with key internal / external stakeholders. For example, PTC HUB Services, 3PL, Specialty Pharmacy, Sales, Marketing, Market Access, IT, Legal and Finance.
Hires and leads the field-based market access team to support broad coverage for patients with a targeted group of payers in accessing PTC products as well as supporting sales leadership and sales.
Coaches and assists the team in payer access and influencing payer coverage policies to align with broad access. Assesses team size and deployment to support individual strengths in supporting access to payers and impacting payer coverage policies.
Develops and executes comprehensive business plans on key commercial and government payers; provides leadership and expertise in the development and execution of core disease and product related materials in collaboration with marketing team to support payer value proposition; provides key input into payer strategy and operational development associated with optimizing broad coverage/access and removing coverage barriers for PTC product(s).
Proactively identify potential marketplace trends/barriers and create plans that will optimize access and create reimbursement confidence with providers and patients
Collaborates and develops strong working relationships with PTC cross-functional and commercial team members, including but not limited to: Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Patient Services, Legal and Field Sales to ensure broad payer access to PTC product(s); to ensure that payer issues are clearly defined and understood and that effective strategies are developed and deployed to overcome any potential issues; actively engages internal team members and external service providers and payers to support broad patient access on a case-by-case basis.
Partners with the patient services team to ensure quality, efficiencies and performance in delivering operational excellence and meeting PTC standards to ensure patient initiation and support of ongoing treatment.
Work with Medical Affairs and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team and conduct analysis to advance our value proposition around our core solutions
Serves as the internal expert and primary point of contact on all payer related issues within the assigned region(s); ensures relevant and timely payer coverage information is communicated to appropriate internal and external stakeholders; provides input and feedback regarding contracting strategies and ensures that all contracting governance requirements are met.
Performs other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.
Bachelor’s degree in a related business or scientific discipline and a minimum of 8 years progressively responsible commercial (market access segment account) experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related environment including prior oversight of a market access team with experience in trade/specialty pharmacy management.
Working knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the pharmaceutical reimbursement process and insurance coverage.
Extensive account management experience. Strong relationships with both private and public payers (Commercial and Government) with a track record of influencing policy change to improve access.
Strong background and proven track record in leading a market access team to support broad access across the product portfolio.
Ability to anticipate issues and respond quickly, flexibly and creatively to solve problems and address commercial market challenges.
In-depth, hands-on experience working in a small but fast growing, entrepreneurial sales environment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.
Ability to influence without direct authority.
Excellent verbal and written communication and skills.
Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.
Advanced degree (PhD, Master’s, MBA).
