US Head, Rare Disease Business Unit

Location: Greater Boston Area

Job Description:

The US Head, RDBU will create a full US Rare Diseases Organization from the ground up and develop and manage a commercial BU, including mapping and building all cross functional support functions and relationships with Chiesi US affiliate. This position is based in Boston, MA.

Strategic Planning


  • In partnership with key team members and internal stakeholders, will lead and oversee the formulation and execution of the overall Rare Disease Business Unit (RDBU) strategy

  • Maintain industry awareness on market trends, competitors, product acceptance and product releases

Sales And Marketing

  • Collaborate with cross-functional Rare Diseases BU leadership team and Chiesi US CEO to develop and execute US sales strategies and tactics for the Rare Diseases portfolio.

  • In partnership with US head, oversee US sales operations, setting objectives and strategic plans

  • Determine US drug list prices based on Global Value & Market Access guidelines (corridors)


  • Responsible for US Rare Diseases P&L

  • Analyze financial metrics of sales organization effectiveness, including budgeting, allocation and deployment of resources, return on investment strategies, identifying a contingency plan as required

Process Optimization

  • Lead and drive complex negotiation processes with key accounts and other relevant customers

  • Create a high-performance work environment, establishing accountability for all team members

General Operations

  • Maintain relationships with key national accounts & stakeholders in US

  • Ensure Chiesi is operating in strict compliance with all local legislations


  • 10 years of experience in senior management or equivalent in the Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry

  • Experience in working in various departments, managing multiple teams

  • Rare/orphan disease experience required; rare metabolic disease (LSD) experience strongly preferred

  • Track record of successful Rare Disease US product launches

  • Strong understanding of the US healthcare system, including the legal and regulatory environment, along with In-depth reimbursement know ledge & expertise

  • Ability to build and lead matrixed teams through both inspiration and hands-on leadership

  • Proven track record of exceeding goals and results orientation

  • Entrepreneurial, decisive, and self- motivated; possesses a sense of urgency with the ability and strong desire to “make things happen”

  • Ability to think strategically, anticipating future consequences and trends

  • Must be willing and able to travel (approximately 30%)

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred
